About

I am Lourdes Perona López, a professional farmer and livestock producer, Agricultural Technical Engineer specialising in Agricultural and Livestock Farming Systems, graduated from the University of Seville, and manager of a family-run mixed farming and livestock operation in Valdepeñas de Jaén, Spain. My professional connection with the agricultural sector began in 2011, when I became involved in both the day-to-day work and decision-making of my family’s farm. Since January 2019, I have been self-employed in the agricultural sector, taking direct responsibility for the technical, economic and strategic management of the operation. Over the years, I have progressively transformed our production model towards more sustainable, innovative and territory-adapted systems. Today, I manage certified organic extensive sheep farming, alongside olive groves under integrated production and rainfed crops using no-till farming techniques. My approach focuses on pasture rotation, soil improvement, reducing dependence on external inputs and making efficient use of available resources. I have also incorporated technological tools such as GPS collars for livestock tracking and drones for monitoring the flock, combining my technical background with hands- on experience in the daily management of an extensive livestock farm. My work has received recognition for its commitment to innovation, sustainability and the adaptation of agricultural activity to climate change. I also take part in initiatives and outreach projects related to the transformation of agrifood systems and the future of rural areas. I am strongly committed to the representation and participation of women and young people in agriculture. I am a member of FADEMUR Jaén and serve as Vice-President of UPA Joven at the national level, where I actively contribute to defending a vibrant, professional rural environment with real opportunities for future generations. My career reflects the way I understand agriculture and livestock farming: combining tradition and inherited experience with technical knowledge, innovation and sustainability, demonstrating that family farms can be profitable, modern and have a strong future.
